The Evolution of
Design Hotels™
For a quarter century more than three decades, we’ve been at the forefront of a movement in travel by curating a global collection of independent, design-driven hotels that function as social hubs and spaces for purposeful experiences.
The Measure of Originality
Each year, more than 400 hotels apply for membership with Design Hotels™. In the end, only five percent are approved. These select few demonstrate a passion for cultural authenticity and genuine hospitality that is enhanced by thought-provoking design and architecture.
The Experience,
Examined
When considering a new member, Design Hotels™ looks for that distinguishing factor—the irrefutable “thing” that makes it wholly original. Is there integration into the local scene? Is there a strong identity? Does the property provide cultural programming? We also look at environmental responsibility, the personalities behind the property, and of course the architecture and design.
The Defining Moment
While all of our selection criteria are important, they are by no means enough; it is impossible to quantify creativity or anticipate the impact of something that has yet to be realized. After all, the true measure of a hotel can only be summed up by one definitive action: walking through its front door.
